Buy Your Foods From the Source

In the last Post I discussed local grown foods as the future trend in American eating. One more trend I see and practice myself is direct purchase from food processors and producers through the phone or Internet.

An Important Key Point:
Though it involves transportation costs from outside your local area, the value is in a larger variety of nutrients for your body, which is essential for long term optimal health.

As you learn more about the Alkaline Lifestyle and branch out to include more sources of "Optimal Healthy" foods, I want to recommend the nut butters from the following company,Rejuvenative Foods.

I first tasted a Rejuvenative Foods product, when one day I was shopping at my local Wild Oats Organic Food Store and discovered that they were out of, up to that time, my favorite Raw Organic Almond butter. I inquired of the manager on duty, who had become a friend of mine, if they had my normal purchase in stock in the back room. He went to check and returned with the news that they were out of stock, but asked if I would be willing to take a substitute product from another company. I mentioned I would consider it so he lead me to a refrigerated case where He handed me a jar of the Rejuvenative Foods Almond butter. I read the label and agreed to take it at the same lower price I would have paid for the other Organic Almond Butter.
When I got home and I made a snack of:
  • Organic Rice Cakes
  • Organic Olive Oil and the
  • Rejuvenative Foods Almond Butter.

With my first taste of the refrigerated Raw Fresh Almond butter, I realized the value of the product and its higher price.

Have you ever had fresh raw ground nut butters straight out of the grinder?

That is what you get when you buy Rejuvenative Foods nut butters. You can taste the difference and once you compare it to the pasteurized varieties and or those nut butters shipped and stored at room temperatures, then only can you know the incredible difference between the two.
If they carry the product at your local health food store, spend the extra dollars and try it. If they don't carry the Rejuvenative Foods products then just order through the company's website.

Ordering through the website is what I would suggest, just for the larger variety of products available to you.
Suggestion:

When you buy products at your food store, visit that product's company website to see the complete line of foods that they make.
You will find that the company makes many products that you would be willing to buy, but the local store could not possibly stock for you, due to their limited shelf space. I first discovered this with French Meadows, no yeast frozen breads. Before it occurred to me,I would go to the store and alternate my purchases between the two products the Wild Oats then carried and I would think to myself, it would be great if they made several other products such as Spelt Bagels. When I asked the manager about whether the company made any other products, I still recall the smile and reminder to me that yes they did, but the store couldn't possibly carry every product made by everyone of their suppliers. He knew I understood grocery retailing, I just wasn't thinking it through.
That night I checked the French Meadows website,

http://www.frenchmeadow.com/Morder.htm (they take phone and Internet orders)

and discovered a whole new source for my diet. I went to the website of every company whose products I purchased and began to request special orders from my local store for those products that they didn't carry. When the local store could not bring in the products, but the supplier would take telephone or Internet orders, I would shop that way.

It is important to plan your nutrition to include a large variety of sources.

  • First so to increase the likelihood of receiving all the essential minerals, elements and enzymes your body requires for optimal health
  • and secondarily, so you don't become bored with your food selections.

On that note, get some of the Rejuvenative Foods Almond Butter, warm up some French Meadows Spelt Bread, soak it with Olive oil and pile on the Almond butter. A highly nutritious Alkaline snack by itself, or with the addition of slices of Organic Avocado and Tomatoes, sprouts or Organic Salad mix, a great meal.
How about this for variety: The Rejuvenative Foods Hemp Nut Butter with French Meadows Hemp Nut Bread. And no,I don't expect to get high from the hemp.

From Rejuvenative Foods website:
What is it about Rejuvenative Foods' Nut and Seed Butters that is so special? Our freshness-dated, raw, refrigerated Nut and Seed Butters are special because they are unheated (not roasted) and still have life energy, vitamins and minerals that are further retained as a result of immediate refrigeration and assured freshness that you know of by our 9 month "best if sold before" date. Ask for Rejuvenative Foods Nut and Seed Butters by name, as you would cold processed oil. An important aspect of retention of life energy is: We monitor temperature during grinding so that heat friction doesn't cook our nuts and seeds.

That last statement about being careful not to heat the nuts and seeds during grinding is a good sign that the producers think things through.I haven't visited their plant,so I can't give my unqualified approval that they are one of the safe food companies, yet from their statements I believe they probably are.

Why Locally Grown Foods are the Future

Back to the Past, but with a different Flavor

Perhaps you have shopped at one of the many Local Farmers markets that are springing up all over America.
Local produced food is becoming more and more a part of Americans dinner table.
The advantages:

  • It supports local farm jobs in your community
  • It keeps more of your money in your community, producing more prosperity
  • It costs less due to savings in shipping costs
  • It is fresher and therefore generally healthier
  • It has benefits for persons with airborne allergies
  • It assures a certain local food supply, not dependent on foreign sources

To find a Local Food Market in your neighborhood you can start with this USDA website:
http://www.ams.usda.gov/farmersmarkets/map.htm

Also just ask around, as not all local markets are listed on websites.

Here is the most current news on the Veggie Booty salmonella poisoning:

  • A report has been issued by Robert's American Gourmet, Inc stating that a food flavoring imported from Communist CHINA was the source of a rare strain of salmonella.
  • The Good News: so far none of the poisoned children have died.

The Food Labeling law that was passed by Congress needs to be expanded and ENFORCED!
I personally want to know the country of origin for every single ingredient in any food I buy.
The idea of We the People not having the ability to know where a food is coming from, is repugnant to the concept of Liberty.

Who benefits by the forced concealment of the origin of our daily bread? Persons who have no love for you or your children and care less about your health and the future of the USA.
This is not just my opinion, it is my experience.
Do you realize that those persons could care less if all American farmers went bankrupt and all our food was supplied by foreign countries? Is that what you want?

What will you eat, if someday in the future, there is a dearth in the lands that are the major food suppliers to America?
What will you eat, if someday in the future, in time of conflict and war, the major food suppliers cut off all food shipments to the USA,just as the Arabs have done with oil imports in the past?
Did you know that the American Garlic farmers have literally been run out of business?

That what was previously known as the Garlic Capital of the world, Gilroy California, has been seen most of its Garlic growers financially ruined by imports from ,are you ready, communist China and Mexico.

In the early 1990s communist China was found to be selling garlic to the U.S.at below cost. Communist China was slapped with a hefty tariff, which kept the US garlic farmers solvent for a few years. But since 2001, imports of Chinese garlic have multiplied 15-fold, while California garlic production has shrunk.

This is called economic warfare.
I suggest you make the time to Contact your State and Federal Congressmen and Senators.

  • Tell them you want to expand and enforce The Food Labeling and Country of Origin laws, both at the state and federal levels.
  • Tell them you want Import tariffs placed on all food imports into this country that compete with or have previously destroyed American produced farm products,in order to support, protect and promote American Agriculture.

Think,if you eat this involves you.

If you don’t know who your representatives are, you can call your local Elections department and they can tell you who they are, or you can search the Internet for your State government’s Congressional website.
