Mold in Corn Causes Cancer

In the Alkaline Lifestyle grains are an important source of nutrients. Organic sprouted grains are preferred over processed non-organic grain flour.

Today in Reuters News there are reports of recently harvested, year 2007, corn crops being loaded with Aflatoxin, a mold that can cause cancer in humans and animals.

The US Federal limit for Aflatoxin in food or for animal feed is 20 parts per billion.

The crops are reported to have levels over 20 and up to 100 parts per billion. One Corn crop had levels of 600 parts per billion.

Aflatoxin is a byproduct of a fungus that grows on corn, peanuts and other crops.

Consuming Aflatoxin in large amounts has been known to cause liver cancer in humans and to kill animals. As recently as in the year 2005, over 70 pet dogs died from eating pet food found to be contaminated with large amounts of Aflatoxin.

Corn is not one of the grains in the Alkaline Lifestyle so it is not a threat to those who follow it.
The news reports serve to illustrate the validity of these following Alkaline Lifestyle Food eating concepts:

  • Do not to consume any Mold, mildew, mushrooms, fungus, spirulina, algae or fermented foods.
  • Eat only Alkaline Grains such as Millet, Spelt, Whole Wheat, and Kumut
  • Eat grains that are sprouted first, then if heated, only at very low temperatures
  • Eat more complex rather than simple carbohydrates

Beside the issue of Aflatoxin, there is the matter of Corns’ ability to rob the body of

Vitamin B-3 (niacin).

Until the culprit, Corn, was discovered as the cause in 1915, Pellagra killed ten’s of thousands of people, mainly in the poor rural southern United States where Corn was the main food source. Pellagra is a vitamin deficiency disease caused by dietary lack of niacin (B-3).

Little did people in the South know, that if they had only eaten a hand full of raw organic Pecans every week, they would have prevented the Pellagra.

Surprisingly the earliest inhabitants of the Americas did not suffer from Pellagra, though maize (corn) was their dietary staple. They had the answer to corns’ deadly affect; by mixing the grain with lime, an alkali, the niacin became nutritionally available and reduced the chance of developing Pellagra.

In this present day, as in the old, the consummation of any Corn that has not been treated with Alkali will contribute to vitamin deficiency with out super vitamin supplementation.

Today even with vitamins in many processed foods, people are still suffering from mild forms of Pellagra, along with Scurvy (Vitamin C), Rickets (Vitamin D) and a host of other “diseases” caused by the deficiencies of a S.A.D (standard American Diet).

The knowledge of Alkalinity has played an important part in human health going back for thousands of years and still does today.

I use corn for one purpose,to check the transit time of food through the digestive tract. It is convenient and low cost.

  • To do it yourself, purchase a can of corn and swallow, but do not chew, a mouth full of the canned corn with one of your meals.
  • Note the time and then check your stools for the next day noting the time when the undigested bright yellow corn appears.
  • Do the math and calculate how long it took for the meal to go from the beginning to the end.

A healthy digestive tract should pass the meal within 10-14 hours depending on what you ate.

Avoid eating corn and you avoid a “host” of problems, no pun intended.
